Fire Department Communications -

The Prosper Fire Department utilizes several solutions for emergency call notification and incident communications.  The three main communications tools utilized by the department include tone based paging, alpha numeric paging, and radio communications.  Each communication method is outlined below.  If you should have any additional questions, please feel free to e-mail us.

Tone Paging -

Prosper Fire - Rescue - PatchThe primary way in which the department receives emergency calls is via a tone based paging system.  The station and each apparatus is equipped with a radio to receive the emergency call.  In addition each non-paid member of the department is issued a Motorola Minitor II or Minitor III (pictured) alert receiver.  When we receive an emergency call the radio at the station, equipped with a tone decoder,  decodes the tone causing the radio's squelch to open.  This allows the alert tone and call information to be broadcast across the station's public address system.   The tone paging / alert system utilizes a frequency of 37.180 MHz with two tone sequential signaling tones of 1743 Hz (A) and 765 Hz (B)

Alpha Numeric Paging -

The department contracts with a commercial paging company to provide alpha numeric paging services for the department.  Each member of the department is issued a Motorola Advisor pager to allow individual communication between department members.  In addition to routine communications, each emergency call is also sent to every members pager by the CAD (computer aided dispatch) system via a common cap code that is programmed in each member's pager.  The nature of the call, address, and assigned apparatus are included in each emergency call page.

Voice Communications

Medic 732
The department's radio communications is conducted on several 800 MHz trunked radio systems.  Our primary channel (PRFD-1) is a talk group on the City of Plano's trunked radio system and our secondary channel (PRFD-2) is a talk group on the Collin County trunked radio system.  All emergency calls that are dispatched on 37.180 MHz are also simulcast on PRFD-1.  The department also maintains the capability of communicating on other agencies channels by having a number of talk groups on the Plano, Collin County, McKinney, and Denton County trunked radio systems programmed in our radios.  The department currently utilizes a combination of Motorola Spectra and MCS-2000 mobile radios which are installed in each apparatus.  Our portable radios include the Motorola  MTS-2000 and Motorola Astro Saber.  We are currently in the process of standardizing all of our radio equipment.  The portable radio solution that we are migrating to is the Motorola XTS-5000 and the Motorola XTL-5000 for our mobile radio solution.  The selected radio solutions will provide us the most advanced radios available.  Both the mobile and portable radio solutions that we have selected are dual band 700 / 800 MHz and are APCO Project 25 digital capable.

If you have a trunk-tracker scanner you can monitor our communications by programming your scanner with the following information:
