Information

The Prosper Fire Department was formed in 1952 to provide basic emergency response to the citizens of Prosper.  Since that time the department has experienced incredible growth and technological advances.  From the early days of an all volunteer department we have grown to a combination department employing 1 Chief, 1 Full-time Fire Marshal, 18 Full-time Fire Fighter / Paramedics and 10 volunteer members, many of whom are full time Fire Fighter / Paramedics with other area fire departments.

Currently the department operates 3 Class A pumpers (a 2003 Pierce Enforcer, a 1997 Pierce Commercial Chassis, and a 1985 American La France Commercial Chassis), 2 Wild Land fire fighting vehicles (a 2008 WEIS Quick Attack 500, and a 1993 Ford F350 with Mertz compressed air foam skid unit), 2 ambulances (two 2002 Frazier Bilt / Chevrolet C3500's) and a utility / command vehicle (a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe).  The department has in service six Bullard thermal imaging cameras on apparatus that respond to structure fires, enabling us to more quickly search a burning building for survivors.  Physio-Control Life Pak-12 monitor / defibrillators, representing the latest technological advances in field medicine, are in use on Medic 1, Medic 2 and Engine 1.  These tools allow us to provide the best fire suppression and medical services possible to the citizens of Prosper.

The department utilizes the Collin County and City of Plano 800 MHz trunked radio systems for communications.  Please visit the other areas of our web site to find out more about our department.  We hope you enjoy your visit and please let us know what you think of our site.

Fire Department Information

Prosper Central Fire Station     The Town of Prosper, TX (located 6 miles north of Frisco, TX and 30 miles north of Dallas, TX) is a primarily residential community of over 7000 and rapidly growing.  The Prosper Fire Department is responsible for providing emergency response to many different situations including: structure fires, grass fires, vehicle fires, fire alarms, motor vehicle accidents and medical emergencies.

The department is composed of 1 Chief,  1 Full-time Fire Marshal, 18 Full-time Fire Fighter / Paramedics and 10 volunteer members who are committed to providing service to the community in a professional and courteous manner.  We are proud to be able to provide this service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In addition to responses within the Town of Prosper, we respond to certain areas around Prosper.  The Prosper Fire Department has established mutual aid agreements with Celina, Frisco, Collin County, Denton County, and the State of Texas to both provide assistance and receive assistance as needed for large scale incidents.

Regular training allows us to quickly and efficiently mitigate various emergency situations.  The department meets each Wednesday evening for training.  The third Wednesday of each month EMS (Emergency Medical Service) training begins at 6:00 pm.  On the remaining Wednesdays the training meeting begins at 7:00 PM.  These training sessions cover a wide variety of topics from carbon monoxide monitoring to vehicle extrication.  In addition to these regular training sessions, many members attend various outside training activities to further their knowledge and skills in particular areas.

Emergency Medical Services

Prosper Fire Medic 1     The Prosper Fire Department provides ambulance service for the Town of Prosper and virtually all of the unincorporated areas of Collin County north of US Hwy 380, west of N Custer Rd and south of Proper Trail.

We currently have two ambulances that are operated from the Central Fire Station.  Both ambulances are licensed by the Texas Department of Health as Advanced Life Support with Mobile Intensive Care Unit capabilities.  The primary ambulance is staffed by two fire fighter / paramedics twenty-four hours a day.  The second ambulance is staffed by volunteers when the first ambulance is on a call.  The department currently has 6 Emergency Medical Technicians and 15 Paramedics in it's ranks. In addition to our two ambulances, each fire engine carries medical supplies and equipment.

In the event that the fire engine arrives to the emergency scene before the ambulance they are fully equipped to provide emergency medical care until the ambulance arrives.

We are often asked why a fire engine and an ambulance are sent to a medical call.  There are numerous reasons for this.  The Prosper Fire Department routinely sends a fire engine and ambulance to any medical call within the town limits of Prosper.  The two primary reasons for this are:  to provide the required tools for forcible entry should the patient be unable to come to the door, and to provide additional man power should it be required to move the patient for treatment.  Please visit our FAQ section or e-mail us for other questions about fire department services and operations.
